Meta has announced a series of new security features for WhatsApp, including support for multiple passkeys on a single account. The update is designed to make it easier for users who have both iOS and Android devices to securely sign in to their WhatsApp accounts.
The company says more than 1 billion people use passkeys to log in to WhatsApp, highlighting the growing adoption of passwordless authentication.
WhatsApp Expands Passkey Support
WhatsApp first introduced passkey support for Android devices in October 2023. The feature was later expanded to iOS users in early 2024.
With the latest update, users can add multiple passkeys to the same WhatsApp account, making it more convenient to access the account across different devices.
Passkeys are considered more resistant to phishing than traditional passwords because they use cryptographic credentials stored on a user’s device.
Users can manage their WhatsApp passkeys by going to:
Settings > Account > Passkeys
Meta has also integrated passkey support into Facebook logins, which was introduced in June 2025.
WhatsApp Introduces Full Passwords for Two-Step Verification
WhatsApp is also strengthening its two-step verification feature by replacing the traditional six-digit PIN with an option to create a full password.
The new passwords can be longer and include letters, numbers and special characters, making them harder for attackers to guess.
“Two-step verification is an extra protection layer that helps prevent someone from taking over your account, even if they get hold of your one-time passcode,” WhatsApp said.
The company is encouraging users to avoid weak and predictable combinations such as “123456” and choose stronger passwords instead.
More Information for Calls From Unknown Contacts
WhatsApp is also introducing additional caller information for Android users who receive calls from people who are not saved in their contacts.
The extra context can include:
The location or origin of the call
Whether the caller is already in the user’s contacts
Whether the caller and recipient are members of any common groups
The feature is designed to give users more information before they decide whether to answer an unfamiliar call.
WhatsApp says the update could help users avoid scams, as fraudsters often use urgency and unexpected calls to pressure potential victims.
